Senior Oral Defense

Senior Oral Defense

One of the requirements for our HRA seniors is to write a senior thesis.  Topics are chosen by the students, and they work with a teacher adviser all year with the goal of researching, supporting, and writing a paper for their topic.  In addition to a written thesis, they are also required to deliver a condensed oral defense before peers, teachers and guests.  Part of the presentation includes a question and answer session from a panel of teachers.

This is one of the crowning moments for our seniors, and it is encouraging to see the product of the work that they have done throughout the year and the development of the rhetoric skills that have been a part of their education at HRA.  We invite you to attend and see just a piece of what a classically educated student can deliver.

Lions Prowl & Grandparents Day

Lions Prowl & Grandparents Day

So what exactly is the Lions Prowl?  It is a school-wide on-campus run where students will be walking, jogging, and/or skipping around a roughly 1/8 mile track marked off behind the school.  Students in grades K-2 will be paired with an upper school running partner, and students in grades 3 - 6 will be running by themselves.  The idea is to see how many laps you can complete in 15 minutes.  Students will gather pledges from family, friends and neighbors ahead of time as either a “per lap” amount or a flat donation.

We will also be celebrating our grandparents that day.  Grab a lawn chair and come on over to cheer on the runners!

Lunch will be available for $5 from the Junior/Senior Italy team.

It will include singing, violins, and other instruments as the students demonstrate the skills they have been practicing in music this year.  For friends and family, it is a must!  See you there!
